Biography

Chances are you've heard Ron Ramin's music - he has composed the scores for more than 250 hours of US network television, including 20 prime-time series and more than 30 original movies/miniseries. Composing bold, dramatic orchestral scores is his passion. Ron has worked extensively in Los Angeles, recording his music at many Hollywood recording studios, as well as in Vancouver and Toronto. His scores have been heard on most of the major networks and cable stations, including CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, Showtime, Sci-Fi, Hallmark and Lifetime.

Born and raised in New York City, Ron received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University. Upon graduation, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a film composer.

Ron won the CableACE Award (Best Original Score) for "Rent a Kid" and received an EMMY Nomination (Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music Composition for a Series) for the 2 hour pilot episode of "Christy", the CBS dramatic series. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL), and is affiliated as both composer and publisher with ASCAP.

Known for his creativity and versatility, he's made seagulls scarier (The Birds 2: Land's End), Leslie Nielsen funnier (Rent a Kid), and Tommie Lee Jones more courageous (Stranger on My Land). Ron's passion is finding highly creative ways for music and film to collaborate.

Ron lives in Northern California with his wife, author and journalist Cathryn Jakobson Ramin and his younger son Oliver, a high school freshman. His older son, Avery, is a student at NYU. He continues to spend considerable time in Los Angeles and, as a Canadian Permanent Resident, in Canada.
