ABOUT RON RAMIN
Ron Ramin was born and raised in New York City. He earned his undergraduate degree at Princeton University, where he majored in music and studied privately with Milton Babbitt. Upon graduation, he immediately moved to Los Angeles where he composed music for 20 Primetime television series and 30 movies/telefilms. Ron is the recipient of a CableACE Award, a Primetime EMMY nomination, and TV/Film Awards from BMI and ASCAP.
“I’ve always loved scoring for films. Versatility is a virtue, and deadlines sharpen your focus. Story, character development, locale, time period all contribute to the musical choices one makes that best serve the film.”
In recent years Ron began composing in concert form.
“I grew up in a highly musical environment. My parents took me to NY Philharmonic concerts on a regular basis. It was a magical time; Leonard Bernstein was the music director. His boundless enthusiasm and electrifying performances are largely responsible for my passion for live orchestral works. Writing in concert form provides a dramatic counterpoint to film composing. Concert music is —or should be—highly personal.”
His works include Golden State of Mind, a symphonic suite depicting the beauty & drama of the California landscape and its cultural diversity. The first Movement of Golden State of Mind, formerly titled Greetings!, was given its world premiere performance by The Marin Symphony, conducted by Music Director Alasdair Neale.
His latest work, SEVENTEEN, is a symphonic portrait for orchestra and six young-adult speakers, who share verbatim excerpts from interviews conducted with seventeen Gen Z activists from across the country. It was commissioned by The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and received its premiere performance, conducted by Eric Jacobsen, in November 2024. It’s a vibrant, propulsive and hopeful expression of how today's young people react to the challenges around them and turn that into positive energy.
A former Board member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists, Ron and his wife, author Cathryn Jakobson Ramin, currently reside in Northern California.
